There has been a huge amount of chatter on the Internet about what exactly Google Wave is. Hopefully this article will clear up a lot of the misconceptions about Google Wave. Google Wave was designed to be the next logical evolutionary step in Internet communications.

By combining the best qualities of both e-mail and IM, Google has created a whole new system of communication. When you first send a message on Google Wave, It seems fairly similar to e-mail, as it is basically you sending a message from your wave account over to someone Else’s. The fundamental difference between e-mail and Wave is the fact you can communicate in real-time as well as respond to messages regardless of their overall age. One of the coolest features that I’ve seen thus far is Google Wave‘s drag and drop function.

In Google Wave, you’ll be able to drag items directly from your desktop and drop them into your Google Wave conversations. This may seem similar to adding an attachment to an e-mail, but is far more practical as you can do it at any point in the conversation.

While there is a huge amount potential in Google Wave, a few issues have appeared as well. A major issue that I’ve noticed is the lack of a clear organizational system. While having the ability to comment on new and archived messages is a cool addition, but without a structure in which you can find and sort your messages it’s not very effective.

Another problem with Google wave has is the fact you have to sign up for a Google account in order to use it. This can be huge problem if you take in consideration that most people don’t know what a Google account is, much less have one. In order for Google Wave to be veritable means of communication, many different people will have to sign up for a Google account and use it as their primary way of communicating on the internet.

Although it’s far from being complete, Google Wave is slated to revolutionize Internet communications.
