Common HTML Validation – W3C Standard and Search Engine Optimisation

Monday, November 30th, 2009

When your web site is added to the search engine like Google, you should clearly know how to rank your site or find out on which rank your website is placed. It is important that you collect quality guidelines for all the good purpose of being successful on Internet because only by searching of keywords, your web site will be displayed on the Google or any search engine.

Some of the important steps to derive optimum results for your website are, first submit your web to the Google and secondly submit a site-map by using Google webmaster tools. Google uses the site-map of your web site to learn and understand more about your web pages and you must also ensure that your web site pages are always online. Hierarchy and text links are more important for reaching your website and each page should have one static text of link.

Give a complete guidance to your users through your site map and if the map is larger than 100 links, break the site map into separate pages and give separate links. See that your web site is informative, rich in content and also provide clarity in your pages along with accuracy in description of your content. Analise about the key words you have used and ensure that these words you have used would display your web pages and also are used on the web page content. Use text more than images, names, content or links.

Because this will enrich your website and would be more helpful in displaying your website and makes its more popular.  Also ensure that <title> and HTML links are correctly linked ensure that all the parameters are kept, each numbered and keep the links within a few number and below a hundred.

Which Forums Are The Best For Online Marketing?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

When marketing online, there are many different ways to get your business out there and online.  One of the ways of marketing your online business is to market in the forum spotlight.

Forums online is like a group of people talking about something and you would then discuss your business in the middle of the forum.  When looking for a forum to join and talk to, you want to look for a forum that has a lot of members, such as members of at least 1,000 members or more.  After you have joined this forum, you can use this opportunity to voice your business and get your advertisement out there.   By avoiding forums that are overrun by spam, you’ll be saving yourself a lot of headaches later on.

You will want to create win-win forum marketing situations.  By doing special things for that particular forum, you will create optimum and ample listings.  Adding more customers to your base will help you bring more money into your pocket.  By offering your forum a special discount, freebie, coupon or something special just because they are a member of the same forum that you are is a great way for win-win marketing situations.  This is really a great way to get your customer base growing.

Not all forums will be worth your time or your business.  They may not be worth your money.  By spending your money to join a forum is something that you’ll eventually have to do, but it is best to get the best deal for your money and be able to make sure that there are a lot of people on the forum you are joining so you can reach a good customer base, and you will also want to make sure that your members that are attached to your forum have at least 10,000 posts.  The more posts the better.  The more people will see your information about your ads if there are a lot of posts on your forum site and the spams are down.  That is the only way to be really successful at forum marketing.

There are a lot of sites available now that are currently used and by a wide variety of people.  These are places like Facebook, Twitter, Digg and Reddit.  These places are sites that you can use to make your online business grow and get more and more advertising out there.  By doing so you’ll make sure that the amount of people that you are reaching are people in the millions.  These people will be able to easily assess your information and at any time.  So while you are sleeping, your business will still be being advertised online in those forums.

Link Building: Quality or Quantity?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

One of the hottest debates in the SEO industry regards link building. To be more specific, it relates to the eternal quantity vs. quality argument for web optimization.

If you have ever taken part in link building activities, you too must have asked yourself what is better for your Web site: link building supported by plenty of links regardless of their quality, or link building supported by less but better links coming from trusted Web pages?

As it is not easy to make a decision, this article aims to give you some insight and help you analyze this matter, so you can achieve the best possible SEO results.

Link building – Quantity

When a Web site owner–or a professional hired to develop a Web site’s link building campaign–chooses the quantity route, it means he or she will try to get as many backlinks as he/she possibly can.

Although in most cases the necessary measures are taken to avoid backlinks from bad neighbors, the truth is that link building in this case is more of a numbers game. You go out there and grab as many links as you can.

The main problem concerning the link building in quantity approach is that, as all well-versed link builders know, a link from an authority site certainly carries much more weight than several links from several unimportant sources.

Link Building – Quality

If you choose to focus mostly or solely on quality backlinks when you develop your link building plan, you must prepare yourself for a whole lot of work and effort.

Yes, you will need considerably less links to achieve the same–or even better–results than a link building campaign supported by large volumes of links would bring. However, as you should know, authority sites are typically inundated with backlink requests.

Besides, their owners tend to be very careful of whom they link to. In fact, this is one of the reasons why their sites are strong. Consequently, you must really have a good plan in place if you hope to gain favor with such demanding targets. Getting quality links may be as time-consuming as getting hundreds of the simpler ones.

Link Building – What Is the Best Approach?

Ideally, you should look for a balance between quantity and quality.

You can’t spend all your time targeting only trusted site owners, nor should you limit yourself to easier, abundant links. Your link building campaign will succeed faster when you try both approaches simultaneously.

Backlinks & A Better Website

Friday, September 18th, 2009

For some time now, I have been asking myself as to whether it is good to submit a site to directories.

Many people have varied opinions regarding this process, but I have decided that it is time that I gave this a go. For now, I am testing this as a way of increasing the number of backlinks to my website. The results of this trial will be posted here in the forthcoming days.

For those who are in need of a little enlightenment, backlinks are links back to your website from other sites. Search engines are led to believe that the number of links back to a website is indicative of its popularity, as this has a direct relation to Page Rank. This is a number that is given to a domain, thereby quantifying the reputation or popularity of a site.

In order to make things simple for everyone, here is a list of directories where I have submitted a fresh domain.

Please feel free to use the list if you think it will benefit you in any way, and I implore you to share your results here, so we can all figure out as to what is best for the betterment of a website.

By the way, at the time of posting, all sites below have Page Rank 3  or higher.

Search Engines -The inseparable part of internet:

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Yes, a web search engine has not only become an integral part of the internet but also a very integral part of our own lives. Any detail is virtually available in the internet provided we know where to look for it and the search engine is the tool that helps us to locate it. The search results are usually listed out to the user, who can select the result that is best suited for the query. In simple words, a search engine is only a software program that searches the internet for specific keywords that are inputted by the user and returns results.

Short History:

As the number of web servers present in the internet increased, no single organization could keep list of all the servers. A tool was first created in 1990 which was known as archive, as it stored the archived information of various web servers. Then in 1993, an MIT professor programmed a web robot, which was soon followed by a CMU backed website called Lycos which was the first search engine ever built. Slowly other companies started cropping up in the search engine business. Google which is highly popular was first introduced as a test project in the late 1990’s.

How do they work?

The algorithm that a search engine is based upon is very complex and not easy to program or understand, so here we give the important aspects based on which a search engine actually works.

  • Query input by the user

This involves the process of the user actually inputting the required query into the search engine. The search engine takes this input as a string and stores it in an array.

  • Sorting millions of pages within a database:

The local database that stores various keywords as representatives to websites is searched for using the stored array. Once the required results are fetched, they are displayed out to the user.

  • Showing the results based on ranking of the pages.

The user can now see the search results for the keyword that was inputted, and has the liberty to choose which ever result he deems fit.

The strategy used for storing of these websites in the database includes a process called as crawling. In this process, a web robot or a crawler is sent to various websites. This crawler looks for tags and keywords and the web site is stored in the index based on the specific keywords. The usefulness of a search engine usually is directly proportional to the accuracy of the result that is being displayed. If the search result and the search terms do not match, it means there is a flaw in the in the algorithm that is used for searching the database and the process was a failure.

The Future:

With ever increasing dependency on search engine, it has become evident that they will always remain an integral part of the internet. So search engine providers are constantly working on various techniques that will not only enhance their presence but also make their search engine one of the best available

Pay Per Click Explained!!

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Internet advertising and internet marketing is the growing trend among advertisers these days. The internet is a mass media and it reaches out to people all around the globe. The growth of internet marketing has constantly been on the rise over the past decade. Advertisers and product manufacturers are tapping this market to the full not only because it is cheaper compared to a conventional advertisement, but also due to its mass exposure. In fact you could be sitting at home in the US and see an ad that explains about a product in the Far East!

What is PPC?

Pay per Click literally means you get paid for every click that is made. The advertiser pays the host, usually the website where the advert is put up, for each click that is made. This not only acts as a medium of advertisement, but it also acts as a way to drive more traffic into your website. This is because, the adverts that are displayed are usually based on the content of the webpage where it is displayed. So as your content changes, the advert changes dynamically. So users are not going to see the same boring advert every other day.

Who provides PPC?

Some of the leading providers of PPC or Pay per click are Google, Microsoft and Yahoo!, but there are a lot more PPC search engines out there in the internet and each one works a bit differently. According to recent survey, the world of internet marketing and Pay per click marketing in particular has grown into a billion dollar industry. Some PPC advertisers offer you more customization including which countries should your advert appear or in what language should it appear!

How does it work?

Usually there are two modes by which the cost of a click is determined. Either a flat rate for each click is agreed upon, in which case there would be a standard rate that is applicable for each click that is being made. The other mode is the bid based PPC, where the advertiser agrees on a contract with the search engine which will allow them to compete on the rates that are set by other private publishers. The PPC was first presented in 1998 by a group of people and was implemented by Google within a year. Of course there is a problem of click fraud which does occur. But which product or technique is perfect and bug free? Although many leading firms have taken action that has reduced the amount of click fraud, it is still present and continues to haunt the market leaders.

Dual advantage!

Google in fact allows it’s users to take the most advantage of PPC. They started the Google Money making program which consists of ad words and ad sense. Ad word is where the user acts as the advertiser and pays a certain amount of money to Google. Google gives these ad codes to users who have signed up for the ad sense program. These ad codes are generally used by webmasters in their website, and it helps them generate revenue as well!

Organic Searching-A new technique just for you!

Friday, August 28th, 2009

What is Organic Searching? and a brief history:

Organic searching… what is it? It is a simple technique of displaying the search results based on the keywords unlike other sources which are ad word driven. The first thought that comes to our mind when we tell organic search, is Food! Is this something related to food? Well the answer would be no, but just as in food, organic here too refers to the search being more pure and natural. The search results are based on the keyword returns and not the money paid by the ad words! As any internet search tool, this was also mastered and brought into the internet world with full force by none other than Google. Although other search engines have tried implementing them, it has not acted to their success.

Some benefits of Organic Search:

Unlike in food items, you are not required to pay a higher price for something being in its natural form. People have started trusting the organic search results over the commercialized ad word driven searches. This is mainly because of the factor that organic search results are more accurate and relevant, as well as offer greater searching depths.  Paid strategies will obviously help you in attaining market position, but the organic searching techniques also play an important part in the SEO of the website and hence it enhances viewership. Regardless, there are other benefits of organic searching

  • Brand Power:

A lot of multinational companies have started investing in organic searching techniques. This is purely done for brand power. Even a common search on the particular keyword will get their website listed in the search list, thereby increasing their audience.

  • Greater Rates of Conversion:

Most of the people who see the search listing do not click on it for the sole reason that they feel it might be just another advertising campaign and not their search result. But with organic searching technique, the conversion rates of clicking on the results is greater compared to ad word generated search result.

  • Free of Cost! :

The above said advantages, and even more for your website all comes at a rate that is unbeatable, FREE. With all the commercialization that goes into Search Engine Optimizing, submitting a website to Google or Yahoo! Or msn is still free. Of course paid subscription is also there, but it is just for making sure that the search engine indexes the website submitted faster.

What the Future holds:

The future of SEO is based largely upon keywords, the same technique that is used for Organic Searching technique. Hence giving importance to keyword not only ensures that a website gets listed on a search engine, but it is also organic and people prefer them. A organic search engine usually is a manual search engine that follows certain algorithms to attain the desired search result, and in fact a survey done by Google proves that there is a chance of people clicking the organic search results than the ad word based search result by over 40%

Organic search

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Organic search has nothing to do with organic food however the term can help us ask an important question. Just like organic food is considered to be a healthier option than other types of food, can the same be applied to a company that uses organic search?

Search engines do a lot in today’s world and determine plenty of things in the World Wide Web. They offer information readily available at a click and have changed the concept of educating through the media.

So what is really an organic search?

Keeping the example with organic food which is a way of growing and harvesting fruit and vegetables with little or no use of pesticides, organic search is a term that explains the way a search engine completes its search results and offers it to the public.  Organic search means that the search is simply based on the crawler and therefore it is pure.

There are different methods with which a search engine provides results. Organic search gives results according to content and word relevancy of the website with the tem searched.  This type of search totally differs from a search that is based on money or on advertising.  It is possible to pay so that the website appears on top and it attracts more visitors.  This method has been used by many companies to advertise a service or a product. On the contrary, pure, organic or natural search are all terms that define the same concept: searching to find the right thing for you without being shown the site that has paid to be on top of the search. There are no payments involved in an organic search.  It is purely based on the keyword that is typed.

In the past years, Google has paved the way in the organic search world and has promoted the use of organic or keyword based searches on its site. Page content is very important according to Google’s idea since the individual that asked for the search wanted simple, straightforward information.  The links are listed by order of relevance to the context and point to the specific site.  The search engine Google uses sponsored or paid links but separates them clearly from the other links in order to make a distinction between those that chose to pay for a top position in the search and those sites that have turned up because they are directly relevant to the search words.

There have been other search engines that tried to place in the same page results that pointed to websites which are relevant alongside with the paid ones, without making a clear distinction between them and this has had various repercussions from various individuals and companies alike.
